Where Your True Freedom Lies

From the day we enter this world, someone is telling us who we are. We are influenced by our parents, family, friends, social media and society. We’re told how we should look, when to speak, how to speak, what we should pursue and how we should show up in this world.

Especially as women, what’s mirrored and mentored to us is to live for others and put others’ needs before our own.

It’s exhausting and so many of us find ourselves caught in a whirlwind of “should”, looking for freedom and permission that we never seem to find.

Here’s the challenge, true freedom doesn’t come from others.

It doesn’t come from doing and saying all the right things, wearing the right clothes or appeasing others.

True freedom comes from within you.

It comes from finding your worthiness within yourself and knowing who you are right now in this moment is more than enough. From this place, your benchmark for success will be based upon you –  not marred by the filter of someone else’s life.

My question for you today is this:

Whose rules do you live by?

(Take a moment before you give a knee-jerk response.)

Whatever your answer is, it’s just information. Awareness. And that awareness can guide your future path. If you live by your rules, by definition, you own your life.

You alone have full accountability.

Of course, this sounds like a lot of pressure. Having all the responsibility for your life. And some people do not like hearing it (it’s much easier to blame someone else than look in your own backyard). But by taking full responsibility for who you are, you find freedom from the “shoulds”.

It also means you alone have the choice to upgrade those rules at any stage, without others’ input. We have the power to change how we show up in the world. We have the ability to pivot to better reflect who we truly are.

Because you are here for a reason and that reason is very connected to your ability to live your life on your terms.

It’s you that matters. It always has been.

And how do you take those first steps to live for yourself?

Prioritize Yourself

Look deep into yourself and find your true inner connection to yourself. Engage with your breath and find grounding practices to help you foster that connection. Your relationship with self is the key to living your most fulfilling, authentic life. Elevating your voice to speak your truth (especially to yourself) is an integral part of learning to honor who you are – at the 𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙚 of your being.

Make The Decision

I talked earlier about how society tells us how we should live and prioritize others over ourselves. If you want to beam your love and service into the world in a big bold way, start with you. Your path is for you.

Be Clear On Your Values

Live them every single day. You are here to live your light, not your parents, your partners or the one you believe is expected of you. Aligning your goals with your values is where you will find your true and most authentic self. Get clear on them and your entire life will make sense. Your path will emerge and the opinions of others will fall away. The voice you will hear with more conviction, will become your own.

When you can step away from the opinion of others and listen to yourself, that’s where you’ll find the inner peace you so deeply desire.

Because you have the answers already inside of you.

Finding Your Soft Place To Land

In our society, compassion for others is celebrated while the need for self-compassion is minimized. Here’s why I think of it as our soft place to land.

The Courage To Be Seen

Courage. It sometimes seems like everyone else has more of it than we do. So how do we uncover our own courage, hold our truth and be seen?

Hey! I'm Laura.

Our rise is seeded in the strength of our roots. I help women plant and nurture theirs.
